Ethereum will start trying out its new ‘Cancun-Deneb’ upgrade on January 17th.


On January 17, they will begin testing a new version of Ethereum called “Cancun-Deneb” or “Dencun,” as mentioned on the Ethereum Github website.

The Ethereum developers are almost ready to test a new version called Cancun/Deneb. They will start by making a copy of the Goerli network to test it with all clients. In the next week or two, they will begin to test.

First, we will use the Goerli testnet to test. We will use the Sepolia testnet on January 30 and the Holesky testnet on February 7.

The new Cancun/Deneb update will be tried out on December 12th. It includes all kinds of customers who agree with and carry out plans, including the Prysm customer. A lot of people can use the MEV-Boost software, but the Prysm client doesn’t work with it right now.

Before making big changes to the main plan, a smaller test version called the shadow fork is used to see if the changes work. It’s a test for the Dencun upgrade.

However, the Ethereum team has not mentioned when Dencun will be accessible for everyone to use. By using certain tools, the Dencun update can make things cheaper and add new features for staking pools and bridges. It also helps prevent smart contracts from breaking.

We will let people know about the changes we made after we test them, at the end of February. However, this may change depending on the success of the test versions.

Proto-Danksharding is a new feature in the Ethereum Deneb-Cancun update that makes it easier and cheaper to do more transactions on Layer 2 networks.

In the next version of Ethereum, the smart contract engine and the security of the blockchain will be improved.

Cancun is the new name for the update that runs the program, and Deneb is the name for the update that makes sure everyone agrees on what to do. They will all be named the Deneb-Cancun upgrade.

Proto-danksharding, also called Ethereum Improvement Proposal 4844 (EIP-4844), is a key part of the Deneb-Cancun upgrade. EIP-4844 wants to help Ethereum process more transactions faster using Layer 2 solutions.

EIP-4844 allows Ethereum nodes to get and save data from outside the blockchain. It explains how much information and space blockchain apps use. When EIP-4844 is used, it should make transactions on Layer 2 rollup systems such as Arbitrum and Optimism less expensive than they are currently.

This plan lets layer-2 rollup networks store transaction data in a new way called “blobs. ” After eighteen days, these small amounts of data can be taken away, which might make it less expensive to do business on the layer-2 network.

The developers decided to postpone adding EIP 4844 to updates because it was too complicated at first. Instead, they wanted to focus on withdrawing ETH from staking.

Yet, Ethereum developers have been closely examining the technical aspects of EIP 4844.

More ideas for the Dencun update include EIP-4788, which makes it easier for apps to use the main part of each Beacon chain block by putting it in a smart contract, and EIP-1153, which lowers costs by making a “temporary storage” method. The data from EIP-4788 will be used to create new options for staking pools and bridges.

Concerns about the Ethereum network’s Dencun upgrade being postponed.

A month ago, at a meeting about Ethereum, people were concerned that the “Dencun” Ethereum upgrade might not be completed in time to launch on the mainnet. Tim Beiko from the Ethereum Foundation said that the changes are not ready to be tested on public test networks like Goerli, Sepolia, and Holesky.

It was very important for Dencun to make sure the software code was good, test it on different versions of Ethereum, and get multiple client teams ready for their mainnet debut. Before the upgrade was tested in a big network, it was still being tested in a smaller network called “Devnet 9” during the meeting.

The first major improvement since Shapella was released earlier this year is Dencun. When you invest Ethereum (ETH), you can withdraw it from the blockchain. Ethereum updates are tested for a long time before they go on the main network. The updated version named “Shapella” started testing on February 7 and was officially released on the main network on April 12.
